The third annual Wexford Food Summit took place today in the Riverbank House Hotel in Wexford town. Organised by the Wexford Food Family, this annual event is an opportunity to promote Wexford’s blossoming artisan food and drinks industry as well as a networking opportunity for local food and drinks producers. The event is extremely successful and is now a key date in the local business calendar.
A wide range of presentations were made which highlighted the growing strength of small food producers within the model county. Local producers Naturally Cordial, Sofrimar and O’Neill Dry Cure Bacon made presentations outlining the history of their businesses, their strategies for growth and their hopes for the future of the local food and drinks sector.
Renowned chef Kevin Dundon, from the Dunbrody House Hotel in Arthurstown, gave his thoughts on the future direction of the artisan food sector in Co. Wexford and had plenty of insightful advise for all of the local producers present. Tom Collins from Bord Bia gave the national outlook for food producers over the coming years while Tom Banville from the Wexford Local Enterprise Office detailed the supports available to local food producers from his organisation.
Seamus Doran from Wexford Local Development explained the supports which local food and drinks producers have received from WLD under previous LEADER programmes. He told the attendance that the new LEADER programme will have a strong emphasis on supporting artisan producers and said that WLD hope to be open for new applications shortly.
