Meitheal Leaders from all over County Wexford were presented with their Certificates of Achievement at a ceremony in the County Hall, Carricklawn, Wexford on January 16th.

Barbara Anne Murphy Leas Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council formally opened the ceremony and warmly congratulated and thanked the Meitheal Leaders for their work and dedication.

Michael Wall Chairman of Wexford Local Development congratulated the Leaders on their huge and committed role in creating a safe and secure environment for in-coming first years. He thanked them for their time as volunteers and hoped they would continue the spirit of volunteerism into the future.Meitheal awards 2018 WLD podium group

 

Marguerite Furlong Founding Member of the programme spoke of the importance of ‘belonging’ and the sense of connecting whether within school, community or county.

Many students participated in the ceremony which added to the atmosphere of celebration. The Masters of Ceremony for the day were Aaron Smith and Kyle Long both Leaders in Colaiste Eamon Rís, CBS Wexford.

Meitheal is a leadership and mentoring programme which operates in 22-second level schools in the County Wexford area. It is designed to educate, empower and support young people in their schools.
