Three teams from Wexford took part in the National finals of the Street League tournaments on 1st May. In all, 32 teams from all over the country participated in the competition. Two teams from Wexford reached the quarter finals and one team reached the final.

In the lead up to the final, 96 men, ranging in age from 17 to 40 years, made up 12 teams from County Wexford. They took part in a 6 week tournament in Northend pitch in Wexford. The team members came from Ozanam House, Lee Heights, Wolfe Tone and Cooclotts in Wexford, Taghmon, Clonroche and Enniscorthy.

The tournament was supported by Wexford Local Development and co-ordinated by Robbie Sludds, who organised the weekly matches throughout. The final of the tournament in Wexford took place on Friday 26th April and presentations made on the night. The teams which took part in the finals in Dublin were made up of players from all the teams that participated in the competition.

The Irish Street Leagues aim to engage men and women who are homeless, substance misusers, long-term unemployed, refugee and asylum seekers and ex-offenders.

As well as providing an opportunity to take part in an activity that the men (mostly) enjoy, the aim is to build confidence, self-discipline and communication skills.
