What is Wexford Rural Social Scheme?

The Rural Social Scheme was initiated by the Minister for Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs, Mr. Eamon O Cuiv, T.D., and announced in the budget of December 2003.  This programme allows low-income farmers and fishermen who are unable to earn an adequate living from their holding/fishing, to earn a supplementary income.

Wexford Local Development at present has a total of 39 participants working in the following areas:

  • Maintaining Walkways
  • Community & Village Maintenance
  • Administration/Maintenance/Caretaking of Community & Sporting Facilities
  • Maintaining Cultural & Heritage Centres/Not-for-Profit Projects
  • Childcare/Youth work

Wexford Local Development regularly updates its waiting list for Participants and if you are a farmer or fisherman or spouse thereof and are in receipt of any of the following payments then you may be eligible to gain employment on our Rural Social Scheme:

  • Farm Assist/Fish Assist
  • Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Disability Allowance
  • Recipients of one-parent family payments
  • Widow(ers) Pension (contributory and non-contributory)
