Wexford Youth Action will host a Local Elections Forum in Clonard Community Centre, Wexford on Monday 12th of May 2014 from 12.30 – 2pm
Members of the group have developed a Manifesto in advance of the Local Elections on May 23rd that sets out thier main concerns around the issues of transport, access to employment, relevant education & training and active citizenship.
What?
An opportunity for young people in Wexford to meet with candidates in the upcoming local elections.
Why?
Many young people do not vote and are sceptical about the electoral process.
This is often due to a lack of information about what the role of local democracy is and how it affects us all.
Co. Wexford has the third highest youth unemployment rate in the country: there is a need for candidates to hear directly from young people about their experiences of looking for work in Wexford.
This event will offer both young people and candidates an opportunity to listen and to be heard in a spirit of constructive debate.
Who?
Wexford Youth Action is a group of young Wexford people who came together in September 2013 to be a voice for young jobseekers in the County.
Wexford Local Development is a local community-based organisation responsible for promoting social inclusion and citizen engagement.
How?
Wexford Youth Action members will present a position paper on what young people in Wexford need in the areas of transport, education and training and employment.
Each candidate will be invited to respond and present their view on how local government can positively influence the situation of young people in Wexford.
There will then be a ‘questions and answers’ session with each candidate having an opportunity to expand on how they would address the issues raised if elected.
