The Irish Agricultural Museum is located on the beautiful grounds of Johnstown Castle, one of the most picturesque spots in Co. Wexford. Since 1973 the board of the Museum have developed one of the finest collections of agricultural machine and artefacts of rural life in Ireland.

Wexford Local Development have had a strong working relationship with the Irish Agricultural Museum for many years and have supported a number of their initiatives under the LEADER programme. The Irish Agricultural Museum is now undergoing significant redevelopment and work has been ongoing since last September. A lift has been installed in the museum building so that the exhibitions on the upper floor are now accessible to the less mobile. A large extension is also being built onto the museum which will house some of the museum’s collection of vintage agricultural machinery as well as possibly offering a workshop space for machine restoration.

Work on this extension is progressing very well and the board of the museum hope to have the new facility open to the public this summer. This is what the inside of the extension looked like last week:

Irish Agricultural MuseumWexford Local Development have worked with the Irish Agricultural Museum to help develop this fantastic new facility. We have offered grant aid of over €100,000 under the LEADER programme to the board of the museum to install their new lift and build this new machinery exhibition area. These works will bring new life to one of Wexford’s unique visitor attractions and Wexford Local Development are proud to be able to offer this support.

Pictured below are Matt and Peter from the Museum who brought one of the vintage machines which will eventually be housed in the new machinery exhibition hall to the Golden Shears last week.
