WLD dedicate’s specific supports to the wider Travelling Community to promote equality, develop anti-discrimination measures and to mainstream equality work. Working with other partners and with local Travellers we deliver local community development actions specifically focusing on involving members of the community.

We also provide supports for Travellers to participate in networks and decision making structures, locally, regionally & nationally – including the Wexford Traveller Inter-agency Group and the Local Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee of Wexford County Council.

On March 1st 2017 WLD welcomed the landmark formal recognition of Travellers as a distinct ethnic culture by the Irish state.

Through co-ordinating and supporting Traveller community participation & representation on local, regional and national decision making bodies to Traveller Cultural Awareness training, WLD has always put the voice of the Travelling community forward through building the capacity and skills of the community itself and by fostering leadership and the value of self-determination.
