We provide high level supports to Travellers and Roma to avail of training opportunities to suit their own needs and interests with a view to progressing into further education or employment.

The overall aim of this programme is to provide Roma and Traveller participants in Wexford with the opportunity to progress onto further QQI Level training and / employment opportunities in the area of health and social care.

Background:

In 2017 the HSE Social Inclusion Office CHO Area 5, Wexford Waterford Education and Training Board (WWETB) and Wexford Waterford Department of Social Protection (DSP) formed an Interagency Steering Committee to develop a New Primary Health and Social Care Programme for Roma and Travellers in County Wexford and sought quotations for the pre-development phase of this Programme.  Wexford Local Development was awarded the contract and they subsequently advertised for a part time Project Officer to manage the pre-development phase of the Pilot Traveller and Roma Primary Health and Social Care Programme for County Wexford.

Carmen Sanchez, the part-time Project Officer is responsible for the following:

  • The outreach, recruitment and induction of participants onto the predevelopment programme(s)
  • The provision of ongoing support to participants
  • The coordination of the delivery of the pre-development programme(s) in partnership with the Inter Agency Steering Committee.
  • Co-ordinating and supporting participant work placements and work experience
