The June Bank Holiday, 5th June 2017, saw 33 women from Wexford Local Development’s Traveller Community Health Programmes complete the Women’s Mini Marathon in Dublin.

The event was supported by the HSE Traveller Health Unit who provided funding for specific Cardiovascular Health initiatives with additional funding from WLD’s Social Inclusion & Community Activation Programme (SICAP). Traveller women from groups in Clonroche, Taghmon, New Ross, Enniscorthy, Bunclody and Gorey were in training with Slaney Olympic Athletic club coach, Paul Murphy, for the weeks running up to the 10K Marathon. Half way through the route, the rain came down in buckets and the going got touch, but one and all crossed the line and received their medals; a great sense of achievement and good for the heart as well.

This event is part of the run up to Traveller Pride week which will see a number of local events taking place in Bunclody and Enniscorthy organised by Wexford Local Development and supported by the Department of Justice and Equality through the Wexford Traveller Interagency Group.

Well done to all who took part and raised money for the chosen charity, Crumlin Children’s Hospital #WetButWorthIt
