Older People

Wexford Local Development’s age equality programme works with older men and women over the age of 55 across County Wexford.  One of the aims of the project is to provide a voice for older people living in our community.  We do this by supporting and developing existing groups whilst supporting individuals to develop groups in their area.

The Co. Wexford Age Equality Network (CWAEN) plays a pivotal roll in identifying groups, individuals and issues within local communities.   The Co. Wexford Age Equality Network is a representative group comprised of age equality groups across the county, such as social and recreational groups, groups focused on policy development, active retirement groups and everything in between.

The programme works with groups that address social isolation, promote participation and influence and shape service delivery for older people.

The Rural Transport Programme is a flexible demand responsive service that addresses social isolation for older people by linking them into local communities and services.  The service is available across the county 6 days per week and is free for free travel pass holders.

The WARM project is an initiative aimed at addressing fuel poverty for older people.
