Mens Groups at Hook Head

Men’s groups from all corners of County Wexford, from Gorey to Ramsgrange and including Taghmon, Wexford Town, Piercestown , Bree, Oylegate and Castlebridge, joined together to visit some historic, and spooky, County Wexford landmarks on Halloween, 31st October. Almost 40 men from groups ranging from  Gorey in the north of the county and Ramsgrange in South Wexford went on a tour of the historic Hook Lighthouse and heard about how families used to live in the lighthouse and how the light was kept going before electricity by carrying bags of coal to the top to keep the flame alight. This was followed by another tour – the spooky Halloween Tour of Loftus Hall, with ghosts and moving furniture!

Then everyone went for a meal together and made the most of the opportunity to talk to men from other groups.

Wexford Local Development have supported training for men’s groups throughout the year, including a day on ‘How to support men in groups’ and a Men’s Health Day  with the Men’s Development Network, funding workshops, and First Aid training course with the Order of Malta.

The next event for men’s groups was a training day on Committee Skills and how groups work, which took place on Wednesday 20th November in Wexford Local Development Training rooms in Wexford town.

The next event planned is a bowling day, where groups can compete against each other. Some of the groups participated in Go For Life games earlier in the year culminating in a National competition in June. This was part of a programme promoting health and well-being through activities. Bowling Day will take place in Thursday 28th November.  To find out more please ring Angela Foley on 053 9155800
